Tabula Rasa and Thanks

Oops, where did October go? The wall calendar here still shows the 10th month, *flips* Almost Thanksgiving? Huh, wha? The weak of heart (re:non-procrastinator) probably shouldn’t to see what my November – January timeline for school looks like. Eek.

So Milo’s gallery goes from 4 months straight to 6 months. Sort of like how there aren’t many baby pictures of poor old me (also a 3rd) I guess. I think I’ll dig out the photo albums when I’m home in Minden this Thanksgiving, and do an informal comparison. :)

Yeah, it is Thanksgiving Break! A break from class meeting times anyway. When I finally made it into the computer lab today on campus there were 3 undergrads and 5 graduate students working away, diligently. Some of us only have a figurative “break.” I was there to copy some files onto my iPod, student project files made portable so that I could catch up on grading in my spare time at home. Ha Ha. It isn’t just me who is mired in work, Stew seems to be on an every other morning, 4 am or 2 am wake up schedule. We are both quite grumpy and snippy. The boys are behaving surprisingly good under the circumstances. The upside for them is that one of us typically goes to bed with them, crawling out in the wee hours of am, on the sly.

Our computers are under pressure and in need to TLC too, my laptop as well as the family iMac, were down to 5% free space on the hard drive, which nowadays equals BIGTIME s l o w n e s s. Rather than upgrading to the newest Mac OS (Leopard), I’ve just done a complete backup followed by an “erase and install” of the existing OS (10.4 Tiger). I hesitate to upgrade to 10.5 (only $69 w/ student discount) since the biggest feature I’ve heard of yet (dual boot into Windows) is only available for the newer Intel Macs, sold in the last year or so. I’m sure we’ll upgrade at some point, but for now, since all we are looking for is a fresh system and a bit more speed, we’ll just stick with what we have. Which is exciting all the same for geeks like me. Tabula Rasa.

Oh, and “thanks” to all who need thanking! I’m sure there were a few “Thank You” notes that fell through the cracks in the last year, but be sure that we appreciate everything, in spades.

Love, stewartville
